The Canaan Dog, known in Israel as (Hebrew: כלב כנעני, lit. Canaanite dog, Kelev Kna'ani), is a typical pariah dog in appearance. They are a medium-sized dog, with a wedge-shaped head, medium-sized, erect and low set ears with a broad base and rounded tips. Their outer coat is dense, harsh and straight of short to medium-length. The undercoat should be close and profuse according to season. Colour ranges from black to cream and all shades of brown and red between, usually with small white markings, or all white with colour patches. Spotting of all kinds is permitted, as well as white or black masks.
Canaan Training
The Canaan Dog is intelligent and quite easy to train. He learns new commands quickly at an above average rate.
Canaan Shedding
The Canaan Dog is a very heavy shedder. He sheds an awful lot of hair! You'll find hair all over your home, stuck to everything! You'll probably even find it in the butter!
Canaan Grooming
The Canaan Dog only requires an occasional brushing. But because he sheds excessively you may find yourself brushing him daily to remove loose hair. (What you get out with a brush doesn't fall out in your home!)
