All Dog Breeds >>Temprament of Japanese Chin

The Japanese Chin is an affectionate, playful lapdog. They are intelligent, cat-like dogs who like to show off by performing tricks. They love to be the center of attention. They are devoted companion dogs who love everyone they know. They can be apprehensive and are often reserved around strangers and in unfamiliar situations.

They are independent creatures who believe that they are royalty. They need minimal exercise, but do enjoy a daily walk. They are sensitive to extreme temperatures, and will need easy access to water in humid conditions. They are described as "cat-like" because they like to climb, and sit on the back of the sofa, and enjoy hiding in strange places.

They are sensitive, gentle, and responsive -- their sole purpose is to bring you comfort and joy. They are more obedient than most toy breeds but can still be a bit stubborn. They are alert and make good watchdogs. They do well with children but do not tolerate commotion or roughhousing. These lively, charming, happy dogs are easygoing, loyal, and full of life.

They make great companions, who will want to be with you all the time, usually cuddled up on your lap. But beware: they snuffle, snort, snore, and are famous for their "reverse sneeze."
